Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 Review

by Mohammed Alo 16. September 2010 19:37

Trying to post this from Internet Explorer 9. It doesn't work exactly perfectly. My blog software (which is Microsoft's official .NET blog engine) doesn't cooperate with IE9. I find that kind of weird. I had to change some things around to make it work.

Internet Explorer 8 was awful in terms of speed and web standards. Very behind the times and very bad. I switched to Google Chrome a long time ago, and this iteration of IE isn't impressing me enough to switch back. I'll stick to my fully compliant, 100% accurate Chrome. There are some things I don't like about Chrome, but not enough to deter me.

IE9 tries to give you more "space" and more on-screen real estate to see more of the web, less of the browser. Well, it didn't work. At least, not enough. Chrome still takes up way less space. While IE9 is less cluttered and takes up less space than IE8, Chrome still beats them out. It seems like they tried to imitate Chrome, but didn't do it enough. They should just ask the folks at Google to help them out.

I will say that it now loads a lot faster. It took a few milliseconds for my blog to load up. I was impressed with that. It seemed to load websites much faster than the blaoted and sluggish IE8, but still not as hair fast as Chrome, but I haven't done any speed tests to confirm. My guess is the average user won't notice and the bottleneck will be the internet connection. They'll need to put these side by side on the same computer, and have them try to render massive webpages located locally and see which one renders faster.

It's about time that IE become more modern and follows all the new HTML5 standards. While Opera, Mozilla, Safari, and Chrome have been compliant for quite some time, IE has not been. Hence, they all dubbed it "not modern" and the other's always refer to themselves as "modern" borwsers.

So is IE9 a more "modern" browser? No. But it looks a little better. Will I be switching back anytime soon? No. I will dabble with it and test it out and give it a chance, and if it impresses me enough, I'll switch. But not looking likely. Don't get me wrong.... I want IE to be THE browser.... I hate having 3 different pieces of software installed on my computer, when one should suffice.

Good luck IE9! Hopefully, you will impress me and I will choose you again! (but it's not looking good)

Update:
I really dislike this browser! When you type a website into the address bar, it doesn't take you to it. Now that really sucks. I've tried about 6 times and it still won't take me to the website. FAIL!
