NFL Week 2: Broncos, Bears, Lions and other observations

by Mohammed Alo 23. September 2009 19:18

My week 2 update is in! (Yes, I watch all the games, this is a very educated weekly column!)

Denver:
DEFENSE! No 2 in yards allowed! Third in sacks! Fifth in interceptions! Tied for second in takeaways! And NUMBER ONE in Points allowed! The only category that counts! Denver is allowing only 6.5 points per game! Wow! All hail Mike Nolan!

That is a huge change! Our defense for the past few years could not stop anyone! Ever! This is much better and best in the NFL.

The offense looked much better. Offense is fourth overall in yards per game and 8th overall in scoring! Not quite the No 2 ranking we had last year, but everyone is learning a new system and it will get better and better!

Denver is still running a 5-2 defense that is extremely attacking and aggressive. They don't wait to see what offenses are doing! They go after the offense and try to dictate! Awesome!

The idiots in the mass media try to say, "Well, they only played Cincy and Cleveland!" These same idiots are the ones that predicted Denver to win only 3 games! Good luck with that prediction. The idiots in the mass media just repeat a few blurbs they heard. Their job is to incite conflict and get people mad. Their job is not to really know much, but pretend to. "Denver will be lucky to win three games this year after all the off season turmoil."

Next up is Oakland. They had a strong emotional showing against SD in week 1 and nearly beat them. In week 2 they sucked hard, but beat an equally awful KC team. When we win we will be 3-0 and still on top! All you have to do is win your division!

We put up 27 poits in week 2 and the offense looked much better and more fluid. Moreno and Buckhalter looked great. The WRs did their jobs, no serious dropped passes like week 1. Looks like that have adjusted well.

Go Broncos!

Saints:
Still look amazing! Wow! If only I had drafted Brees with my 4th overall pick on my fantasy team, I'd be undefeated! I regret that! They really have something special going on! It really is history in the making. Watch any NO games you can see, because years from now, you can say, "I watched them play." And their defense leads the league in interceptions, they already have 6! That's pretty impressive, considering their pass rush.

Giants:
What wide receivers? So, they clearly have addressed their WR issues and look really good. Anyone that has been following their training camp and preseason should have known this. But of course, the idiot media heads on ESPN never do. (I stopped watching ESPN many years ago..... thank god for NFL network.... I don't even have any other channels). Manningham has been a pleasant surprised. Once again, it's not straight ahead speed that matters, but rather your actual skill set.

Patriots:
Their offensive line has been woeful and it's starting to show. Their defense has lost a lot of players. I don't think they are washed up. Belicheck will have them ready and in a few weeks they will be back in form. For now, it's going to be a rough start.

Miami:
They did everything right and Pennington put them in position to win and the WRs dropped the touchdown throws in the endzone. It's not Pennington's fault. People are quick to try and blame him and say that they need to move to Henne or Pat White. That's not true. They dominated time of possession and should have beaten the Colts. But Ted Ginn dropped the TD pass. And they had another opportunity, and droped that as well. I love how the clowns in the mass media (who probably didn't watch the game) are all concluding that Pennington willbe out of job soon. He did his job perfectly!

Jets:
How good is their attacking defense? Wow! This defense is number one, Denver is number two. How awesome is Darrelle Revis? If you haven't heard of him, you will. Heshut down Randy Moss completely! This defense will keep them in games as Sanchez grows and gets better. I expect them to win a bunch of games, and possibly win their division (like Denver). The only competition they have is teh Patriots, who will get better as teh weeks go on.

Jake Long and Ryan Clady:
Clady is the top Left Tackle from that draft class (and probably the best in the NFL right now), was drafted much later than Long, and finished in the top 3 of rookie of the year voting. He is an awesome pass blocker and an awesomely athletic run blocker. Contrast him to the disappointing Jake Long, who was the first overall pick, cost something like $40 million dollars and can only run block. Against elite pass rushers he struggles and is pretty worthless. It's sad hw much he costs his team. Very limited and not athletic. They should just run!

Lions:
They looked a lot better than last week, although they looked pretty good last week, it's just that they played the Saints. They had an early lead and looked pretty good. Minny has found a way to tame Favre, which is good for Minny. Lions fans.... don't worry, you will win games this year. Look for a win next week against Washington. Washington struggles on offense and the Lions will be at home.

Chiefs and Raiders:
Someone had to win this game. Despite the high score, these teams are really bad. If you only saw the box score and highlights, you'd be deceived.... these teams really, really suck Beyond suck! So many penalties, so many errors, awful offenses, poor defense. The $63 million and $40 million dollar quarterbacks (more than any other game) both were awful. The AFC West is between SD and Denver. Oak came out strong in week 1 against San Diego, and nearly won, but that was an emotional home opener against their rivals. They regressed to their mean. But Michael Huff, finally looks like he has figured out how to play!

Packers:
They really, really need an offensive line. They should have drafter Oher or Monroe instead of BJ Raji. That was really dumb. They already have Cullen Jenkins (healthy now) and he is crazy good! If they don't succeed it will be to their offensive line. They had a great week one against Chicago, but struggled against Cincy. Odum.... wow! How many sacks did he get? Five! Was that a record? Packers really need an Oline.

Cincy:
This team does not suck! They have an awesome offense, and a vastly improved defense. If Roy Wiliams (Mr. Dumbass) woud have played his role in week 1, Stokley would have never ran the tip back for a touchdown. Instead Roy wanted to lay out Brandon Marshall and lay a big hit, and hence, they paid for it. Play disciplined ball, stay in your position! His job is to keep everyone in front of him. Wow! They'd be 2-0 at this point going into week 3 to play a vulnerable, dejected Pittsburgh team! Cincy will beat the Steelers in week 3. Watch! Will we still be saying that Cincy is "just a bad team?"

Philly:
Played well on offense without McNabb. But what happened to their defense? If they had any semblence of defense they may have pulled this one off. Surprised that Kolb played so well.

Cowboys:
They are very susciptible against the pass. Awful secondary. People will be able to throw at will. If they thought Roy Williams was bad in coverage, they are much worse now! They are going to struggle this year.

Indy:
Manning finds ways to find receivers and win games. Their ground game sucks, but man can they pass. They lost Harrison and now Gonzalez, and some guy named Garcon is their starter. And he is doing well. Donald Brown looked decent, but clearly Indy would rather throw than run. They will probably finish ahead of the Pats this year and win their division.

Tennessee:
Regressed? The team with the best record last year suddenly can't win a game? How can you not win when Chris Johnson breaks off two 80 yard TD runs? Ok, the first game was against the vaunted Steelers (with Palomalu). Game 2 was against a newly revived Houston team. Can they beat the Jets next week? The Jets have an amazing defense and will probably eat Tennessee alive. Can the team with the best record from last year start out 0-3? Hmmmmm.....

Bears:
Cutler is back down to his baseline. They tamed him and had good results. This is what Cutler can do. Long game winning drives with some nice bullet passes for scores. I still maintain that the Bears will be in the Super Bowl they will be. Cutler has never lost to Pittsburgh and had a career record game against them in Denver. The Bears defense will be ok without Urlacher. They play a Tampa 2 defense that reads and reacts and tries to creat pressure with the front seven only. They will be fine. The first game against Green Bay was an emotional, rivarly game with some first week jitters. Don't worry Bear fans, JC will take you to the promise land!

Ravens:
I've admired FLacco's arm strength, accuracy, and mobility. He keeps getting better and better. Don't be surprised if they win their division!

San Fran:
2-0 and winning their division handidly! Beat Arizona and Seattle! All you have to do is win your division! And they are doing! Frank Gore is a freak!

St. Louis:
Easily the worst team in football. All around, most well rounded, equally awful worst team! Even Oakland, KC, and Detroit are better.

Carolina:
Same serious issues. Losing in division to ATL was bad. Their defense is really atrocious. Should they have kept Peppers? And they ranchised him? Paying him $16 milion. Bad decision. They play Dallas next, so they will put up a ton of passing yards! But man, do they look bad.

Idiot Media Heads:
If your only job is to watch sports and comment, you should actually watch the games. There is no excuse to not watch all the games and make educated comments. The ESPN guys are the worst! Pasquerrilli, Clayton, Mortensen.... AWFUL! They have to report on all sports, so they may not watch all the games. But it's sad that they make dumb coments and repeat worthles cliches about each team!

There is absolutely no excuse for the NFL Network guys to not watch the games! Their entire life and job has to do with the NFL! Sit down and watch the damn games!

I'm tired of Jamie Dukes (on NFL Net) making silly coments about Josh McDaniels and Denver. I can understand an ESPN idiot pretender like John Clayton make uneducated comments.... but not an NFL Network guy! That is inexcusable!

Adam Schein has to be one of the dumbest human beings on earth! He is on the NL channel on Sirius radio. He is supposed to know football. He clearly doesn't. He s loud, irritating and provocative (gets people to call with his strong opinions)... but he does not know football. He is the Rush Limbaugh of football. Someone call him and help him out. It's hilarious to listen to his "educated" picks every week and just laugh. And his preseason rankings. Wow! Talk about bizarre.

Surprisingly, Michael Irvin has been making educated comments. He was the only media analyst that comments on Denver in an educated manner! He warned everyone that McDaniels and Denver are going to do well this season! I'm very impressed with Irvin (I never liked him before).

Stay tuned for next week's update!
