2010 NFL Week 4: Bears, Broncos, Chiefs, Patriots, Jets, SF, Orton, Cutler, Palmer, Bradford, Jeff Fischer, Titans defense

by Mohammed Alo 6. October 2010 18:44

Have we ever had so many 2-2 teams? I think it's amazing that we only have one undefeated team. What's even more amazing is that it's the Chiefs. Last year we had so many undefeated teams still in week 4, this year is a different animal. Heck, Minnesota, Indy, and New Orleans, NY and NE have all lost. All were playoff teams. Indy is 2-2. I certainly thought they were better than that. I guess not.

Broncos

I am extremely impressed with their offense and defense. They have played some tough teams and some great running backs and have held them all in check. MJD and CJ barely put up any yards. The focus this off season was the run defense, and it looks like we did it. The offense has broken NFL record after NFL record. The team that "couldn't throw down the field" has more pass completions over 25 yards than anyone, more passing yards than anyone, and is on pace to break a ton of NFL passing records. No wide receiver foursome has ever had 140+ yards receiving, 1+ TD, and 10+ receptions through 3 games. Denver's guys have done that and some!

More importantly is that Denver's offense is very unique. I like when people innovate on offense and defense. Sean Payton in NO has definitely got a good thing going, but now McDaniels does too. Denver's offensive scheme is very potent and Orton is the perfect man for the job. Very smart, very accurate, great decision maker, can make all the throws, and has a very strong arm. McDaniels system is such that someone will always be open on every play. It's Orton's job to get the ball to that man. And he has done it superbly.

He nearly has 1500 passing yards through the first 4 games. Wow!

Denver's defense is tops versus the pass with our awesome DBs (once all healthy) and has stopped some of the best RBs. They have a complete defense. The special teams (especially kickoff coverage) need some work, but I am sure they will figure that out over the next few weeks.

This is a very complete team. Teams like this can make some noise. Sure, they don't have a running game, but they are working on that in practice every week. That will be established and get going soon enough. McDaniels doesn't believe that you have to run all the time. He believes that when you want to run, it needs to be effective. Like at the end of games. I am sure that will work better as the year goes on and the Oline gets healthy.

Denver fans have a lot to be proud of this year. If you haven't watched a Denver game, find a way to watch one. Watch how the WR run their routes, and what Orton does before the snap and after the snap. Very impressive!

Bears

Wow! What a disaster. I think everyone had a feeling that the Bears shouldn't really be 3-0, but rather 0-3. Either way, they are now 3-1. And had a disasterous fall. Cutler must have really upset his Oline this week. They allowed him to get sacked about 900 times. He eventually crawled into a hole and cried mercy. Maybe his arrogant, cocky attitude, and me-first personality finally got the other guys pissed off and they thought it was time for some humble pie. What a beating.

I firmly believe he was concussed long before the last hit by Ross. His reaction time was slow. He wasn't doing anything on offense. He was throwing balls to the ground. Just a bad situation. Poor guy.

Will the Bears make the playoffs? The good news for them is that they lead their division, and the division isn't that good this year. The bad news? Minnesota and Green Bay still have very good teams and will lose a huge challenge. If Favre plays up to 80% of the level that he played at last year, they will be very good and be in the playoffs. The NFC looks very weak this year. St. Louis already is winning their division (huh?) And New Orleans doesn't look as strong either. It'll be a struggle but the Bears probably won't be in the playoffs. GB will be in for sure, and may end up being the No 1 seed this year. It'll come down to Minny and Chicago if another NFC North team is going to make it.

Chiefs

Ok, they are undefeated. But will this last? They couldn't lose this week, because they didn't play. If they go to Indy and beat Indy this week, I'm a believer. Otherwise, they've caught some lucky breaks and we'll see what happens. But they are undefeated.

Chargers

They are statistically the No 1 offense and the No 1 defense. Are they any good? Yes. They are still the team to beat in the AFC West and Denver will have their hands full. Rivers has the weirdest, ugliest, most bizarre throwing motion, but he plays well. They will get the ship righted and get above 0.500. They may not have a running game to speak of, but they will pass like crazy and win some games (sorta like Denver).

New England Patriots

Wow? Talk about a team win. Special teams puts up 21 points? Who needs WRs? Oh snap! They just got rid of theirs. Bye, bye Moss. New England's special teams coach O'Brien used to work in Denver under Shanahan many years ago. He's a good guy and good at what he does. The only weakness on this team is the defense. They are young and inexperienced, but they are learning quickly. Belichik has done it again. The offense will be fine with all the new guys. Tate, Woody, and Ben Jarvus Green will be fine. Brady will makes stars out of them. I think this team could very well be the best team in the AFC now.

Jets

A collection of weirdos, misfits, and crackheads. Who would ever have thought that you could say Ladanian and Braylon and Santonio in the same sentence? How weird. Their weakest link is the QB. So far, he has strung together some decent games. They will go as far as he can go. Their run game doesn't scare anyone. The WRs are easy to fluster and throw off. The defense is good. The offense will be the weakest link. Sure, they'll have some good weeks, but overall they shouldn't go anywhere. If Indy didn't throw that game last year, they'd be at home watching the playoffs.

San Francisco

How bad do these guys look? You'd think they would play better. They nearly beat New Orleans (if it weren't for a couple of badly timed turnovers) and Alex Smith plays like a probowler. Then everything else is complete suckage. Someone explain this team to me. The defense is holding up their end of the bargain, for the most part.

Jeff Fischer and the Titans

A slimeball of a coach and a bunch of cheapshot hooligan players. Who punches people's heads when the helmet falls off? Who punches people's balls in the bottom of a pile? Who has more personal foul penalties than anyone else? Fischer and Cecil are coaching this style of "tough", errr, I mean "cheap" defense. No one can see the bottom of the pile, so punch the RB in the balls. How idiotic! Fischer and the Titans need to play football, not find ways to unfairly gain an advantage. Pretty disgusting and despicable.

Orton and Cutler

I don't care to compare the two, but for the rest of their lives, everyone is going to compare them. From a football standpoint, we can't close the book on this argument, until both are out of the NFL and have retired. If Orton or Cutler go on to break records and win Super Bowls, then we'll know which one was better. For now, Orton's attitude, demeanor, personality, accountability, coachability, and team first attitude is everything that you'd want out of a football player (or any human being). He is the epitome of everything that is good about football. Cutler is the opposite. He has some talent, but is immature, unteachable, blames everyone else, makes bad decisions, and so on and so forth. Everything you don't want.. He is a few years younger than Orton and can grow and mature over time, but it's not looking good right now.

Carson Palmer

I am not sure what is wrong with him, but something isn't right. He doesn't have that killer instinct anymore. Doesn't scare defenses anymore and makes very weak, wobbly passes. They won their division last year with a lot of last second comebacks. This year he is playing scared or just doesn't have confidence. Weird situation. Can someone from Cincy enlighten me? I have only watched about 2 complete Cincy games.

Bradford

He actually looks good. And they are winning their division. Imagine that. St Louis? I've never seen a rookie QB "unleashed" like this before. How many times has he thrown it already? Forty times per game? Wow! Keep going brotha!

I can't believe that a quarter of the season is already over! That went by fast! Looking forward to a great rest of the year! All of the off season was spent so that we could enjoy this time.
