They should just cancel the NFC this year and have all 12 playoff teams come from the AFC. I can't think of one NFC team that is better than the 5th or 6th best AFC team. Whoever wins the AFC will win the Super Bowl this year! We gotta get it back. New Orleans was an aberration.
The strongest teams in the NFL now are the Jets, Ravens, Colts, Patriots, Titans, Steelers, Chiefs, Chargers, and then I would include New Orleans, Green Bay, Atlanta and maybe Vikings and Chicago. It's gonna be a long season. I don't think I have ever seen this much parity in the NFL. It seems like there are going to be a lot of 9 and 10 win teams in the playoffs this year. In fact, out in the NFC west, the first to 5 wins may make it.
For the first time in NFL history you have two QBs with over 1700 passing yards through week 5, Orton and Rivers. Three are over 1600, add Manning to that group. It seems that every year more and more teams are pass first and more and more passing records fall. It's going to be an exciting year.
For the first time in a long time, there are no 4-0 teams left. The Chiefs had a chance, but lost to Indy.
Broncos:
They played one of the top 2 teams in the NFL in the Ravens. Up next? The top team in the NFL in the Jets. Denver played admirably, considering that half the defense got injured and couldn't play. Their offensive line played very well against us, and Ray Rice finally had a good day rushing and scored some TDs. Denver still passed for over 300 yards and two passing TDs against the "number one passing defense". We can put up points, but the defense couldn't get their offense off the field. That really hurt. Orton and the WRs did their thing, and the run game did their thing (which is nothing).
The Jets are up next and they bring a similar type of defense to Mile High. This Sunday is Orange Day and everyone will be in Orange. The Broncos could pull this off. Mile High is a tough place to play. If we can stop the running game (which we can) and let Sanchez see if he could beat us, we could pull this off. Their defense is also banged up. Pace and Revis are gametime decisions if not worse. They don't have enough defensive players to cover all of our offensive players (no one does, that's how our offense works) and we should be able to pass at will. Our offensive line is still ailing and we probably won't be able to get a run game going anytime soon, but we don't need to.
Chiefs:
I said last week that I'd be a believer if they beat Indy. They didn't beat Indy. But I am a believer. These guys are playing well. Their offense isn't doing well, but their defense is keeping them in games. Who'd have thought that Peyton Manning would be held to a few yards and shut down. I am very impressed. They are atop the AFC West for good reason now.
Chargers:
The No 1 offense and the No 1 defense, and still a losing record at 2-3. All of the AFC West teams are tied at 2-3 except for the Chiefs at 3-1. Will be a fight to the finish.
Bengals:
Once again they manage to lose. I don't know how you let a team like Tampa Bay do that to you. Or the Browns last week. What a disaster. this team swept their division last year. That division includes the Steelers and Ravens. Not going to happen this year. Last year, they won a few of those divisional games with last minute drives and lucky catches in the last few seconds, but this is bad.
Cowboys:
I am not sure what is going on here, but they keep losing. They have 1 win. Just 1. They have talent, but they manage to lose. And they lost to Vince Young. Wow! I think the Cowboys play lackadaisical and uninspired. They need someone to light a fire inside them. You have to want it! The offense needs to run a lot more. They can run. They just need to more often.
Giants:
They will likely win this division. They are playing much better and bringing intense pressure against QBs. Hakeem Nicks is a stud. Eli is getting him the ball. This is their year to pull it off.
Bears:
Watching the Bears Panthers game was intolerable. It made you want to stick alcohol dipped ice picks into your eyeballs. Has there ever been worse QB play? Four interceptions by Collins and one by Clausen. Neither QB had a passer rating over 10. Yet, the Bears actually won? They should have just cancelled that game and given both teams a loss. That was the worst display of "professional" football anyone could put on a field. How can you even award any one of those teams a win? See below.
Panthers:
The Panthers have to be the worst football team in the league right now. Why they changed to Clausen after just one or two games is beyond my comprehension. You had a guy that won you the last 4 out of 5 games last year. You tell your entire team that you believe in Matt Moore, then you switch to Clausen after someone flinched. How dumb is that? Is John Fox a moron? Does he not understand credibility? How are players supposed to believe in you and buy into your program when you don't even believe in yourself nor in your own decisions? Changing your mind after one game is pathetic. Fox will be gone. So why should he care.
49ers:
If they keep this up, they are going to get the coaching staff fired. I don't know how many mistakes you can make and still be allowed to play. Heck, even Frank Gore fumbled. TWICE! When's the last time he ever fumbled? So you have Alex Smith throwing balls to the other team and Gore handing balls to the other team. What more do you want? This team lacks discipline and coaching. I'd be running all day with Gore if I was them. Despite Singletary being "Mr. Discipline" they don't have any. Why is Vernon Davis getting up and dancing and celebrating a reception, when he should be running up to the line of scrimmage and getting ready for the next play with time expiring? Is he playing for the other team?
Cardinals:
Wow! Who would have thought that an undrafted rookie QB could lead the Cardinals to victory? Max Hall, congrats my friend. They scored in strange ways, but they did. Hall has a friendly personality and the defense and the rest of the team "played for him". It seems that Anderson and Lienert never commanded that type of respect. He is a humble guy that works very hard. I am sure he will get better as the season progresses.
Jets:
Ok, they look pretty good. I've been saying that they are lucky (and in some ways they are), but they are also better than I thought. They manage to find ways to win. Sanchez isn't completely there, but he is getting close. He has a lot of weapons to play with and their defense is holding up. I remember reading an article on the defensive scheme that they run, very insightful. They have "penetrating" situations, "normal" situations, and "prevent situations". Check out the article. Very informative about the Ravens and Jets defensive strategy.
Bills:
I guess they are going to keep CJ Spiller on the sidelines and save him for the next coaching staff. Because these guys aren't going to be there for long if they don't start winning games. They should play their 9th overall pick and see what happens. At worst, they keep losing. Which is what they are doing now anyways.
This year is going to be a doozy! Buckle up! It is going to come down to the last few weeks. Last year by week 12 almost every team was still "alive" for a playoff spot. This year, no team has more than 4 wins, and tons of teams have 2 and 3 wins. The entire AFC South sits at 3-2! It's going to be very close and very exciting. There are only two teams without a win, Carolina and San Fran. It's hard to go 0-5 in the NFL, but they have done it. Of the two, SF will win more games. They look a lot better than the hideousy and suckage that is Carolina. Go back to Matt Moore clowns!
